Allie On: Life (Lately)

Let's start with juice.

I juiced with my friend Whitney last night for the first time. It was ridiculously fun. I made sure to have some left over for me to drink this morning before I had my orientation and started training for my new intern position(!!). It was so good this morning and really kept me energized. Then after I got hungry and got...Taco Bell....see it's all about balance!

I brainstormed with said Whitney before the juicing to drink coffee and talk about a side project we are taking on. I'm really excited about it because we're going to be helping a start up with all of the initial branding. Pretty exciting. So coffee had to be involved.

I hung out with this little lady who decided that her chair cushion made the perfect turtle shell. She'll be one of my new roomies come August! Couldn't be more excited.

I went grocery shopping with Nathon. We found this rice krispie treat. It was pretty substantial. I assume you would really have to like rice krispie treats to drop $15 on this little sucker.

I hung out with this baby as well. Meet Gigi aka Conehead. She was adorable until you realize that she has no idea there is a cone on her head. So she goes about her business all around your business and rams into your legs. Girl needs to get it together.

I dropped my computer. Le gasp. Oh man. It fell out of the little pocket on the side of my backpack. I about died. I was so worried, I grabbed it and ran into Java Break so I could see if it was okay. It works okay but makes a sad little noise now. Look at it. :(

I drank coffee.

 I drank more coffee.

I caught up with a friend (and other future roomie!) at the Nordstrom cafe. Holy delicious.

I realized that I love my friends more than anything.

Allie On: Banana and Egg Pancakes

I finally caved and decided to try these pancakes.
They are made of 1 banana and 2 eggs. And they're pancakes. Of course I was interested!
I grew up eating a ton of Bisquick pancakes and waffles but those had actual things in them like baking powder and stuff. These are au natural. Gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian or whatever -free is hot right now.

Anywho, back to the cakes.
I first saw this recipe on Taralynn McNitt's blog, which I am a big big fan of. It's all about health. So I just read it and look at the pictures. Not. Actually. Cook any of the recipes. Until now.

So let's get started.

First things first, here are the lovely ingredients.

A nice banaynay and some eggs. You'll need only 2.

This is the traditional recipe, but I'm not so traditional. So I wanted to amp it up a bit. I grabbed some cinnamon and vanilla extract.
Then you position them around your apartment and take pictures like they're in a Christian rock band. Or 98 degrees.

Start choppin' your naners.
Then you put the pieces in your nice big bowl.

So take out your little rubber spatula from the dollar section in Target.
Aaaannnndd....

Suddenly, you realize that rubber spatulas are not the best banana smashers. And you know not to add 'banana smashing' to your resume because you obviously can't figure it out.

I'm so glad we're doing this together.

Add your nice shiny egg. Then rinse and repeat.

Just kidding. Add your other egg then ferociously stir this concoction.

While you ferocisously stir...coat your pan in some good ol' butter.
Because butter is everything.

Is butter a carb?

And while you're cooking, pour yourself a glass of milk for some tasty nourishment. Pour the milk into a margarita glass because it is closest to your cooking station.
But hey, it's Friday.
Gotta go crazy sometime in your life.

Next, look at the photos you've taken on your phone and cry because you stink at photography. Not even an instagram filter can save you.
Then, realize you're hungry and stop crying.

Your mixture should look like this.
Make sure to spice up your life.

Then you're good to go. Pour em' on there.

And there you have it. They really are quite neat. I would have never thought to do something like this, so props to whomever created this.
It didn't take too long and with finals coming up I needed something easy.

I put some berries and peanut butter on mine. The PB was delicious on them. I wished I had put more on but I didn't want to get up and walk to the kitchen.

Recipe:

-1 banana
-2 eggs

Mush up the bananas then add the eggs. Mix well until kinda frothy. There will still be clumps, but the clumps kind of hold everything together. Don't blend the mixture because it will become really runny and hard to handle. Grease a pan and pour out the 'batter' and cook like normal pancakes.

Enjoy!

Allie On: Expectations

Expectations: the act or state of looking forward or anticipating.

We all have expectations. You and I definitely do. You're reading this blog expecting to be entertained or at least be barraged by a bunch of cool pics of food (or nudies) while I expect people to actually read this (spoiler: no one reads your blog, Allie).

But either way, we go into every situation with expectations.

I have a new suggestion: how about we not.

This summer I had these total expectations about my perfect internship. I applied to all these great places that I totally wanted to intern at. In my mind, I could see myself working there. Once I heard that other people were getting calls and interviews my phone was a live wire. Any time it vibrated I jumped out of my seat. I found myself checking my email every two seconds and waiting for that call. And ya know what? Once it didn't come I was more disappointed I'm sure than if I had just let things happen the way they want to happen. It doesn't mean that the other candidates were more qualified than me, it just means that I wasn't a good fit. And why would I want to work somewhere where it isn't a good fit?

I'm not saying that all expectations are bad because there are some that are inherent and should be expected. But for the most part, just let it be.

A couple years ago I went to visit my uncle in San Francisco. I was upset about a boy, naturally and wasn't sure why things weren't working out how I wanted them too. I mentioned in passing to a friend of my uncles and she said, "Go in with no expectations and you'll never get hurt." I shoved her saying into my back pocket and didn't think about it until come college I constantly needed to remind myself of it.

And it's true.

It's the expectations in our heads that make us disappointed. I would much rather be pleasantly surprised than monumentally disappointed. And isn't the difference?

If say you're dating someone and you go in expecting something to happen and it doesn't than you're disappointed. If you go in expecting nothing and something goes down hill you're not going to be disappointed and it won't hurt as much because the upside wasn't really on your radar. And vice versa. I would much rather be surprised that someone did something great that I wasn't expecting than just know that that was supposed to be happening. AND I could make some money. Ya know, get rich or die tryin'. Yeah?

Catch my drift? Probably not.

Here I was totally upset because this summer wasn't going as planned. What I should have realized was that I had a BETTER opportunity sitting in my lap and I didn't realize it because I was so focused on the other stuff.

Now I'm excited for the summer, but not expecting it to be fun.... wait. Now that just sounds silly.

I know I'm not the only one who thinks this and I know other people disagree with me. Just think about it and get back to me. Message me on MySpace or AIM about it....

And I'll leave you with this:

And this:

But most importantly, leave with this:

Allie On: Inspirational vs. Cheesy

I have a pinterest addiction.

There. I said it.

The first step is to admit it!

As much as I love pinterest I wonder about the other people who have accounts and if they believe some of the crap that is floating around pinterest. No, I’m not talking about those ‘life hacks’ but instead I am talking about those ‘pinsperational’ (Persperational?Kidding.) boards you see everywhere with beyond cheesy quotes that make you cringe because you know 23 people will post it to their Facebooks so you’ll be forced to see them all over again.

An example of an overly cheesy pin:
I mean, I know what they’re trying to say…but it just hurts. They even put quotations around it (ahem…who is being quoted here?) (And I love how grungy the background is because hellos and goodbyes are so dirty) (And I’ve also had some very satisfying goodbyes as well…)

But don’t go around thinking that I’m some kind of love-hater or inspirational quote hater. I am in fact, the opposite. I love a good quote. But it’s the ‘learn to dance in the rain’ and ‘if you’re a bird, I’m a bird’  kind of quotes that give them a bad rep!

So without further adieu, here are some of my favorite quotes that I hope will find you on a lonely day and maybe put a smile on your face.

*One of my favorites. I have a soft spot for Mr. Jobs.

I hope you got something out of this and in light of the tragedy in Boston I would like to send my condolences to anyone who was affected by the events. I hope you too remain hopeful that this world can and will someday be a better place.

It is finally Spring in Kansas (I say that while it is 30 degrees out right now because the temperature dropped really dramatically)! I snapped this for my mom because her B-Day was on Tuesday. Moms love flowers. Moms love trees. So moms love flowered trees.

Currently I’m trying to get the last bits of wear our of dark lips before spring comes! Nothing better than a pretty plum color. Speaking of plums, have you seen this video??

Um, hi. I’m obsessed.

“Armani loves plums. I’m going to get him some.”

And then I realized that people actually make this stuff. That makes it just grape juice. Amirite?

After a hard day last week I ‘dragged’ my roommate Heather to get a cupcake with me at Billy Vanilly. They had like no cupcakes which was sad but this one was okay. It’s banana and that cookie is a vanilla wafer. You just can’t go wrong.
